
Cardiosurgery
In minimally invasive heart surgery, the working space for the surgeon is extremely limited. Therefore innovative, smart instruments are needed. The superelasticity of Nitinol instruments enables the surgeon to insert complex instruments through small trocars / cannulas. The thermal shape memory effect allows the surgeon to shape the instrument on site to fit the patient´s geometry---after heat sterilization the device returns to its original shape for the next procedure. and shape memory instruments.
Aortic Sizers
In aortic or mitral valve replacement, assessment of the native annular size and selection of the correspondingly sized prosthetic valve is necessary to achieve maximum hemodynamic performance. With the Nitinol Aortic Sizer the diameter of the orifice can be cetermined precisely. The shaft of the instrument is made of Nitinol with thermal shape memory effect. Soft pressure allows the surgeon to shape the sizer to fit the patients geometry. The hollow geometry allows a perfect view in the annulus. After heat sterilisation the sizer returns to its original straight shape.
The Aortic Sizers are arranged in ascending order according to length and width.
Vascular Dilators
Vascular dilators assist the surgeon with the dilation of vessels for coronary and vasacular surgery. The extremely malleable Nitinol dilators can be introduced in vessels with very little pressure and therefore minimize the risk of injuries.
These dilators can be deformed according to the surgeon´s needs.
However because of the thermal shape memory effect the instrument regains the initial straight shape in the autoclave. For the next operation the surgeon recieves a "as new" instrument!
The hexagon shape of the handle prevents the rolling of the instrument.
The Vascular Dilators are arranged in descending order according to length and diameter.

Epicardial Retractors
A coronary bypass surgery requires retraction of both muscle and fat in order to have a good view to the coronaries. This can be accomplished with the superelastic Nitinol Epicardial Retractor.
Due to the superelastic properties
- a wide area (25mm) can be spread open
- the force of the spreader is minimally traumatic and constant
- the instrument can be manufactured out of one piece and is easy to clean!
The superelastic epicardial retractor is available with 3 different opening forces: 0.6N ; 1.2N and 1.8N
Suction Tubes
In order to aspirate fluids and secretions from the operative area, malleable suctions tubes are used. To reach the point of interest with the distal tip of the suction tube, the shaft is deformed by the surgeon. The Nitinol suction tube with a thermal shape memory shaft can be deformed mayn times individually to the surgeon's needs. By heat sterilisation the suction tubes regain their initial shape.
